CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
THESEUS (30-50, any gender, any ethnicity) – Duke of Athens, mythic hero, authoritarian, controlling and self confident. This actor will also play TITANIA, the Queen of the Fairies who is in a power struggle with the Fairy King.
HIPPOLYTA (25-50, any gender, any ethnicity) – Queen of the Amazons, a fierce warrior who has been captured and is being forced to marry THESEUS. This actor will also play OBERON, King of the Fairies, who is not willing to have his authority questioned.
PHILOSTRATE (any age, any gender, any ethnicity) – Theseus’ master of revels and clipboard-carrier. This actor will also play PUCK, the madcap trouble-maker and fairy spirit who serves Oberon.
EGEUS (40-60, male presenting, any ethnicity) – A father who is attempting to persuade or force his daughter to marry the man he has chosen. This actor will also play a fairy in the service of Titania.
HERMIA (18-25, female presenting, any ethnicity) – A young woman In love with Lysander. Her father is trying to break up her relationship, and Hermia is ready to run away.
HELENA (18-25, female presenting, any ethnicity) – A young woman in love with Demetrius. She is friends with Hermia and willing to do anything to get Demetrius’ attention.
DEMETRIUS (18-25, male presenting, any ethnicity) – A young man who wants to marry Hermia whether she wants that or not. He is proud and privileged.
LYSANDER (18-25, any gender, any ethnicity) – Lysander is in love with Hermia; a poet, songwriter, and artistic soul.
NICK BOTTOM (20-50, any gender, any ethnicity) – A weaver and amateur actor. Bottom is the most talented actor in all of Athens, and can play any role you need – according to Bottom.
PETER QUINCE (20-60, any gender, any ethnicity) – A playwright and director who has the privilege to present work to the court on Theseus’ wedding day, if only they could find a good rehearsal spot. This actor will also play a fairy in service to Titania.
FLUTE, STARVELING, SNOUT, and SNUG (20-60, any gender, any ethnicity) – These are the amateur actors who be in Quince & Bottom’s play. They are a supportive chorus. These actors will also play PEASEBLOSSOM, COBWEB, MUSTARDSEED, and MOTE, fairies who serve Titania.
