Auditioning/Working with ATC FAQs

AUDITION WEEKEND FAQs:

When are call-backs?
In-Person Auditions: The same day! When you finish your monologue, you may be asked to perform one of the sides you will find on the individual show pages on our website. You will be given time to leave the room to prepare by yourself or with your reading partner(s). Plan to stay at auditions for at least one hour.

Sides will be available on a tablet at the audition, no need to print them out yourself.

Video Submissions: If a director would like to see you reading sides, you will receive an email with more information no later than March 8. Filmed sides will be due no later than March 15.

Where do I find the sides?
Call-back sides and character descriptions can be found on the individual show pages linked at www.theactorstheatre.org/auditions. Select the graphic of the show you’d like to learn more about and it will take you to a new page with further information.

Does my audition time include my slate?
No, the timer will begin when you say the first word of your monologue.

My audition is longer than 90 seconds. Is that okay?
There will be a timer in the audition room. When you have 10 seconds remaining, the timer will stand, and at 90 seconds, the timer will say “Thank You” — please stop speaking at that time.

Who is in the audition room?
All five directors, any assistant directors, our managing director, a timer, and a reader will be in the room.

When will I be contacted?
We hope to contact everyone one way or the other within a week of our final audition day.

What is the vaccine policy?
We encourage, but no longer require, vaccinations for cast and crew. However, if you feel ill please wear a mask in the audition waiting room. If you have a fever, please stay home.

Where do I park for auditions?
Parking in German Village is often tricky. Street parking is available in the area. Always read and abide by all posted signs.

How long will I be there?
Plan to be at auditions for at least an hour.

What should I wear?
Where whatever makes you the most comfortable.

Is there movement?
There is not a movement portion to the 2024 auditions.

Should I prepare a song for my audition?
Many roles this year require singing or playing a musical instrument. If you are auditioning for one of these roles, we encourage you to perform up to 30 seconds of a song as part of your 90-second audition slot. You may choose to sing, play an instrument, or both. You may not use a speaker and there will not be an accompanist present. Please note the musical styles indicated for each play. Your monologue + song may not exceed 90 seconds combined.

If you do not present a song as part of your initial audition, we may still ask you to sing a snippet of a song as part of the callback portion.

More information about music styles or roles that require singing can be found on the individual show pages.

Who can audition?
Anyone and everyone is welcome to audition for our season.
